Dr. George A. Tann, a Negro medical doctor, came from Kansas to set up a medical practice in the area of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He lived on the south side of Coon Creek, near where it empties in the Caney River. He established a cemetery west of his home for some of his more unfortunate patients. Sam and Mark Beck were Negro freedmen who settled in the area after the Civil War and received an allotment. The land where the cemetery is located was alloted to one the Beck's daughters, Luquitta. Thus the site became known as the Becky Cemetery. A sign on the fence indicates that the site is recognized as historic by the Cherokee Tribe.
