Side Notes for Baseball Fans: Robert Cooper died on Wednesday, October 6, 1943. The same day his son Mort Cooper pitched a winning game for the St. Louis Cardinals in the second game of the 1943 World Series. It was the Cardinals' only victory during the World Series. The funeral was held on Saturday, October 9th with both brothers returning to the series on Monday, October 11th.
