Steve R. Johnston was formerly head of Grady Hospital serving as Superintendent for 12 years.
He served on the Board of Fire Masters and the Board of Education. He also served on the City Council from 1908-1916. In 1916, he was elected an alderman and mayor pro tem of Atlanta, in which he remained until 1919. He became Superintendent of Grady Hospital from 1919-1931. He was a member of the Georgia Lodge No. 96, F. & A.M. and the Shriners.
For fifty years, he was a member of the First Methodist Church.
At the time of his death, S.R. Johnston had one daughter surviving, Mrs. B.C. Speers; three grandchildren, Dr. Steve Johnston, Of Okeechobee, FL, B.C. Speers, Jr., and Mrs. Charles Walker Jr., and one niece, Miss Ruth Blodgett.
Funeral arrangements were made by H.M. Patterson and Son.
