This monument is erected over the sacred relics his excellency Josiah Bartlett Esq' Late Governor of New Hampshire Who died May 19th 1795 In the 65th year of his age and his virtuous Consort Mrs. Mary Bartlett who died July 14th 1789 In the 59th year of her age.

Josiah Bartlett (December 2, 1729 [O.S. November 21, 1729] – May 19, 1795) was an American physician and statesman, delegate to the Continental Congress for New Hampshire, and signatory of the Declaration of Independence. He was later Chief Justice of the New Hampshire Superior Court of Judicature and Governor of the state.
