Obituary in Southern Australian 29 March 1842: Died on the 2nd of March, Mr John Brown, a native of Shields, in the county of Durham, who left England in the first ship bound for South Australia being the only cabin passenger on board the John Pirie, with the late Captain Martin. Joseph Lovelock Died 2/3/1842 - Joseph, a hut boy, died along with John Brown (buried adjacent) from an attack by natives on the Tod River south of Mt Gawler.
