Joel Knight was born April 5, 1808 in Sussex, England, son of Semeon and Frances Knight. His family moved to Maidstone, Kent, England. In November, 1825, Joel and his father immagrated to America after the death of his mother. They lived in New York until April 1831. On September 18, 1834, he married Amelia Stewart of Boston, Massachusetts and began studying medicine. In March, 1837, Joel, his wife and five month old child moved to Iowa where they lived for sixteen years. On April 7, 1853, Joel and family traveled by covered wagon to Oregon Territory. They left with three covered wagons, livestock and employed five men to assist. The Knight family arrived in the Oregon Territory, September 17, 1853. Joel took out a Donation Land Claim of 319.5 acres near Camas, Clark County, Washington Territory. Joel represented Clark county at the Territorial Legislature several times. He passed away at home on May 20, 1867. In 2009, Gary Knight moved the cemetery headstones from the land-locked Knight Family Cemetery along Evergreen Highway to Fern Prairie Cemetery where he established the Knight Family burial plot., Joel - England

Monument to the Knight family. It is located at the Fern Prairie Cemetery in Clark County, Washington. The headstones were originally located at the Knight family cemetery, T1N R3E, three miles west of Camas in Clark county Washington. Descendant Gary Knight moved the headstones in 2008 from the family cemetery to the Fern Prairie cemetery because the Knight family cemetery had become over grown with black berries bushes and was land locked between to pieces of privately own property.
