The illustrious Jacob Montagu son of Edward Montagu of Boughton in the county of Northampton, the Golden Knights, descended from the royal earls, the son of the fifth son of the most wise King James, the dean of the chapel of the region, promoted to the episcopate of Bath, and then to Wintonian bishopric, because of his faith, dexterity, prudence, and prudence in the most important affairs, he was appointed to the most holy counsel of the king. He was very dear to the court, constantly in the middle of the active course of his life, which he had devoted to the God of the church and country.
