Epitaph

Sacred to the memory of James Dennison of Virginia, formerly Schoolmaster of Balmaghie. He was born in Culreoch in the year 1755 and died in Gatehouse 19 Dec 1824 aged 69 years. Also of his only son William Dennison, M.D., who died in Gatehouse from typhus fever caught in the discharge of his professional duty the 3rd June 1838 aged 25 years. His untimely fate is most deeply lamented by his widowed mother the public and all who knew him. He was universally esteemed for his moral worth, his professional skill and his attention to the suffering of the poor. Also in memory of the erectore Nicolas Brown spouse to the aforesaid James Dennison and mother to William Dennison, M.D., their son. She was born at Clauchreid and died at Gatehouse 30 March 1848 aged 78 years, she was much respected for her integrity.
