Notes: Records available on Fold3 show that Henry Quear, a/k/a Henry Queer, Private, Co. I, 12th West Virginia Infantry, age 35 years, was mustered into served 08/28/1862 at New Manchester for a period of 3 years. Company Muster Rolls for May through August, 1864, indicate he was absent -- wounded and missing in action at New Market 05/15/1864. Company Muster Rolls for September 1864 through April 1865 reflect that he was absent, in hospital at Annapolis, MD, since 09/03/1864. Memoranda of Prisoner of War Records show that Henry Quear (a/k/a Quer, Queer, Queen and Quean) was captured at New Market, VA, 05/5/1864, confined at Richmond, VA, paroled at Akins Lodge 09/01/1864, reported at Hospital Division 2 09/03/1864, transferred to CP Hospital 09/14/1864, and furloughed for 30 days 10/19/1864. A Medical Certificate dated at Wellsville, OH, 12/26/1864, requests the furlough be extended another 30 days, stating he is unfit for duty due to a gunshot wound to his right thigh received at the Battle of New Market on 05/15/1864. He was mustered out on 06/07/1865, and appears on the Company Muster-out Roll dated 06/16/1865.
