George R. Hixon, 101, of Dawson, passed away Wed, April 15, 2015, in Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. George was born May 24, 1913, in Lower Tyrone Township, a son of the late William D & Minnie (Nicolay) Hixon. He married the former Hazel C McKnight on Nov. 25, 1939. George was a devoted husband & father. He was employed as postmaster at Dawson for 26 yrs, until his retirement on May 7, 1976. Years ago, he worked at the Old Overholt Distillery at Broadford and with the P and LE Railroad. . A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army's Medical Corps as a staff sergeant and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the EAME Campaign Medal. George will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 75 yrs, Hazel C (McKnight) Hixon; his daughter, Dr Donna Hixon and her husband, Thomas Dawson, of Erie; his step-granddaughter, Dana Dawson, of Atlanta, and her daughter, Brooklyn; his step-grandson, Carmen Dawson and his companion, Ebony Britton, and their son, Carmen Dawson Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Harry & Earl Hixon; and his two sisters, Clara Randolph & Cora Dull.
