Lou "Duke" Beatus, 80, of North Aurora passed away on April 16, 2015 at Presence Mercy Medical Center. He was born in Aurora, IL on January 18, 1935 the son of Lou and Bertha (Moore) Beatus. He graduated from West Aurora High School in 1953. He was a member of the Clipper Football Team from 1954-1957. Lou proudly served his country with the United States Army from 1957-1959 and while in the Army played football for the Headquarter Eighth Army, Seoul Korea. In July of 1960 he joined the Aurora Police Department. He worked his way through the ranks retiring as commander in August of 1993 after 33 years of service. While on the Police Department he took courses at The University of Illinois, University of Louisville, Northwestern University and was a 1972 graduate of the FBI National Academy, Quantico, VA. Lou served on the Third Ward committee and was a precinct committee man. He also served on the Aurora Civil Service Commission from 1997-2009. He was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He served on the Youth Board, Christian Day School Board, Board of Trustees, Cemetery Board and Vice Chairman of the congregation. Above all things in Life his greatest joy was spending time with his family and especially loved attending their sporting events. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Alice (Stallmann), children; Denise (George) Karagianis, Lisa (Timothy) Miotti, and Michael (Laura Leonard) Beatus, grandchildren; Alex and Austin Jordan, Elizabeth and John Miotti, Grant, Hannah and Brock Beatus and step-grandchildren Alexandra Karagianis and Kyleigh (Steve) Klein. He is also survived by his sisters Rebecca Gillen-Pence and Shirley Miller. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Mark Joseph (Killed in WWII) and Ralph Beatus and sisters Francis Fisher and Edna Mathis. Family will receive guests on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Dieterle Memorial Home, 1120 S. Broadway Ave. Montgomery, IL. He will lie in state from 9:30 AM until the time of service at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church 85 S. Constitution Aurora, IL. Interment will follow at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Montgomery, IL. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or to Open Door Adult Developmental Disabilities Center 405 S. Well St. Sandwich, IL 60548.
