Epitaph

Sacred to the memory of Fletcher Partis Esq. Many years an inhabitant of this city, and formerly of the Middle Temple; He endured a long and painful illness, with Christian Patience and resignation to the Divine will.

His affectionate widow, deeply sympathizing in all his afflictions, has caused this monument to be erected as a tribute of conjugal affection and regard to his memory.

He evinced his gratitude for the blessings a kind providence had bestowed on him, by repeated acts of Liberality, to several public charities during his life, and also by a desire to alleviate the suffereings of his fellow creatures in providing an asylum for thirty decayed Gentlewomen being widows or daughters of clergymen, merchants or professional men, whom adverse fortune had deprived of brighter prospects, where he hoped they would find rest and comfort in the evening of their days, and which his widow is anxiously desireous to see established. He calmly resigned his breath th his Maker on the 31st August 1820, aged 79 years in humble hope that through the sufferings of his blessed Saviour he would obtain that mercy which is promised to all truly penitent sinners.
