In Memory Of
EDWARD DAY
Died Oct 30th 1932
Aged 84 Years
The death occurred in the Dannevirke Hospital on Saturday last, at the age of 84 years, of Mr Edward Day, one of the early settlers of the Woodville district. The late Mr Day, whose father was an officer in the London Customs Department, came to New Zealand in the early 'sixties as a sailor on an immigrant boat. At Port Chalmers he left the vessel and travelled into the Clutha district, where he took up shearing and small farming for some settlers. Later, however, the desire grew in him to travel further afield and he shifted to the North Island, settling between Woodville and Ballance. He bought up some blocks of land and did a small amount of contracting. He had been in the Woodville district only a few years when he went to Tauranga, but after a stay of six weeks he returned to Woodville where he took up his residence in Woodlands road. Deceased was highly respected by those with whom he came in contact. As far as is known, he has no relatives in New Zealand.
