Vincent Vessey was born Christchurch in June 1915 and Betty, nee Tester, was born in London in December 1916.

They were members of St Joseph's Parish, Otahuhu, until they married in 1940, then became members of the new parish of Holy Cross at Papatoetoe where they and their children Rita, Colleen, John and Tony were active participants in all aspects of parish life.

In 1969 Betty and Vincent moved to Bucklands Beach where they attended the Church of The Immaculate Heart of Mary until 1975, when Masses were discontinued and they attended at Star of the Sea Church. It was here that they celebrated their grandchildren's Baptism, First Communions and Marriages.

Betty died in June 1992 and Vincent July 2003. Both their Requiem Masses were celebrated by Father Prendergast at Star of the Sea.
