Here under lyes all that was mortal of Colonel Ambrose Norton a worthy and loyal descendant of worthy and loyal ancestors.

He served the Crowne of England about 40 years in employments both civil and military in which he wver acquitte himself faithfully and as a man of honour.

He was exceeding graceful in person and behavior, his illustrious gentleness and sweetness of disposition were equal to his courage, and he crowned all other virtues with a molt exemplary piety.

He was a branch of the ancient family of the Nortons of Somerser shire, and Cousin=Garman to Sir George Norton of Abbot's Leigh in that country. A House happily renowned in history for he concealment & preservation of King Charles the 2nd at the fatal battle of Worcester.

The Lady Norton having been a widow 3 years, sister of Sir George Norton (to whose memory she has erected a marble monument at Abbots=Leigh the fame form and dimention as this)

And since ye widow of Colonel Ambrose Norton has in her great regard to his memory where he disired his body might be interred. Expecting a blessed, resurection.

He died in the 77th year of his age on the 10th day of September in the 10th year of his Majesty King George ...1797
