MRS. A. J. SCRIVENER

After a lengthy illness, Daisy Ethel, wife of Mr. A. J. Scrivener, of Daysdale, passed through the gates of the Great Beyond on Sunday evening last, May 16, 1948, at the age of 59 years. Deceased was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Macartney, of Coreen, and was born at Lake Rowan, Vic. She came to the Corowa district with her parents in the early nineties. She is survived by her husband and two daughters and two sons - Elizabeth Caroline (Mrs. True, Corowa), and Daisy Mary; Ronald and William Gilbert. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren - Edna Higgins (Daysdale), June Higgins (Daysdale) and Garry True (Corowa). One daughter, Ethel Elizabeth Mabel (Mrs. W. Higgins, Daysdale) predeceased her.

Deceased is also survived by her sister, Mrs. Fred Cooper, of Whitehead street, Corowa, and Mr. W. G. Macartney, Walbundrie. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon last at the old cemetery, the burial service being read by the Rev. Mr. Eddie, of Brocklesby, acting for Rev. N. G. Anderson. Presbyterian Minister.

By the death of the above named the Macartney family have been called upon to sustain the third bereavement in the past several weeks, through the death of T. J. Macartney and his two sisters, Mrs. James Quirk (Cecelia) and Mrs. A. J. Scrivener. Deceased was highly respected throughout the district, and her departure will be greatly regretted by her many friends and acquaintances, who thought much of her for her splendid qualities.

MR. ALBERT J. SCRIVENER.

A well known resident of the Daysdale and Corowa districts, Mr. Albert John Scrivener, died in the Corowa hospital on Tuesday, October 21, aged 84 years.

The Scrivener family came to Corowa from the Holbrook district and were interested in the first wool scouring and boiling down works at Mooratunka, South Corowa. They also farmed "Monomeith" until it was sold at 3/16/- per acre.

In 1907 the late Mr. Albert John Scrivener married Miss Daisy Macartney, who predeceased him some years ago. He leaves two sons, Ron and Will (Daysdale) and one daughter, Nell (Mrs. W. True, Yarrawonga). Two daughters, Ethel (Mrs. W. Higgins) and Mary (Mrs. Merv Hall) and one son, James, predeceased him. He also leaves two sisters, Helen (Moonee Ponds, Vic.) and Elsie (Mrs. William Forbes, Cohuna, Vic.) and one brother, Sydney (Albion, Vic.).

Deceased was a foundation member of the Coreen Football Club in 1900 and he was also a foundation delegate of the Coreen and District Football Association, now League.

There is now only one surviving foundation member of this league, Mr. W. Macartney, a brother-in-law, who is residing at Walbundrie.

He share farmed on "Kentucky", "Boomerang" and on the late Mr. Galvin's property at Daysdale.

His funeral, which was largely attended, took place on Tuesday, October 23, leaving St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Corowa for the Old Cemetery after a service conducted by the Rev. Brian K. Burton, B.A., who also officiated at the graveside. The casket bearers were Messrs. Bill Scrivener (nephew), Merv Hall (son-in-law), Lindsay Hall (grandson), Bill True (son-in-law), Alex Barnes (nephew) and Garry True (grandson).

The mortuary arrangements were in the hands of Wm. Squires and Sons, Funeral Directors.
