Thomas R. Leavitt - by his sister, Emma L. Broadbent - taken from "The Life of Thomas Rowell Leavitt and his descendants" published 1975

Thomas or Tom as everyone called him, had a disposition much the same as his father's. He was quiet, a willing worker both in his priesthood classes and at home. With his dry wit and humor everyone loved to be around him. He was a good clean sport, went to house parties and ward entertainments. He loved to be with the crowd. He went to dances but stood on the sideline and looked on until the winter of 1912 when he got up courage enough to ask his sisters and a few young ladies for a waltz. He was a strong, healthy chap. He worked in the hay and grain fields when he wasn't driving a team behind a hand plow or scraper, building government roads. In Dec. 1912, between Christmas and New Years he was driving cattle on Uncle Jerry Leavitt's homestead five miles south of Leavitt. His horse slipped on the ice. He was found unconscious and passed away 30 Dec. 1912. It was the shock of Tom's death that caused Mother's leakage of the heart.
