LYNDON G. CAHOON, beloved wife of the late Edward Cahoon, passed away peacefully at St. Therese Villa on Friday, August 31, 2012 at the age of 86 years. She was born in Sandwich, ON, June 11, 1926, daughter of Roy and Sarah (Brell) Eakett. The family moved to Calgary when she was 14. She served a mission for the LDS church in England 1950-1951. Upon her return she renewed her friendship with Edward whom she had met while in England, that friendship quickly turned to love and they were married in the Cardston Temple March 26, 1952. With their two children they lived in many places, finally returning to Leavitt where they lived for many years. Following the death of their son they moved to Grande Prairie where they resided for 17 years, finally moving again to Southern Alberta where they retired. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward, her son, Kevin, her grandson, Brennon Wannop, her parents, and her brothers and sister. Lyndon is survived by her daughter, Dawnetta and her husband Donald Wannop, their children: Dusti (Julian) Villas, Renny Wannop, Loranne (Kevin) Klima, Coridon (Kristi) Wannop, Nathan (Kathy) Wannop, Darren (Holli) Wannop, Devon (Amy Neuman) Wannop, Byron Wannop. By her great grandchildren: Shae, Ashlyn and Dantae Villas, Hayden and Kieran Wannop, Austin, Kayleigh and Mira Klima, Max and Brady Wannop, Devrey and Peyton Wannop, Leighton and Gracie Wannop, Ava and Adalyn Wannop. Also the “daughter” of Mother’s heart, Lorna (Maurice) Duchesneau, brothers-in-law, Lawrence (Carolyn) Cahoon, Edwin (Beth) Cahoon, sisters-in-law Joyce Cahoon, Amy Cahoon, and many nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends. Lyndon was well-known for her crafts, paintings and needlework. She and Edward opened their home many times to those who needed a place to stay – from sheepshearers from Australia to a newborn whose mother had died. They found there more than a warm bed and a hot meal but a truly heartfelt welcome no matter how long they needed to stay. The family wishes to express our thanks to the staff at St. Therese Villa for the wonderful care she has received the last three years. She loved you all. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday September 8, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, FAIRMONT CHAPEL, 205 Fairmont Blvd South, Lethbridge. Friends may meet with the family on Friday, September 7, 2012 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at CHRISTENSEN SALMON GENERATIONS FUNERAL HOME, 703-13 Street North, Lethbridge, or at the church prior to the service on Saturday from 12:00 to 12:45. Interment in the Leavitt Cemetery at 4:30 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Perpetual Education Fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at pef.lds.org/inmemoriam. Due to severe allergies, floral tributes are declined. The family also requests that those attending please refrain from wearing perfumes, colognes or scented products. Časová osa života osoby Lyndon Gertrude Cahoon

1926
Lyndon Gertrude Cahoon se narodil(a) na 11 Jun 1926
Lyndon Gertrude Cahoon bylo 13 let, když World War II: Nazi Germany and Slovakia invade Poland, beginning the European phase of World War II. World War II, also known as the Second World War, was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945, although conflicts reflecting the ideological clash between what would become the Allied and Axis blocs began earlier. The vast majority of the world's countries—including all of the great powers—eventually formed two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis. It was the most global war in history; it directly involved more than 100 million people from over 30 countries. In a state of total war, the major participants threw their entire economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities behind the war effort, blurring the distinction between civilian and military resources. World War II was the deadliest conflict in human history, marked by 50 to 85 million fatalities, most of whom were civilians in the Soviet Union and China. It included massacres, the genocide of the Holocaust, strategic bombing, premeditated death from starvation and disease and the only use of nuclear weapons in war.
Lyndon Gertrude Cahoon bylo 14 let, když The Holocaust: The first prisoners arrive at a new concentration camp at Auschwitz. The Holocaust, also referred to as the Shoah, was a genocide during World War II in which Nazi Germany, aided by its collaborators, systematically murdered some six million European Jews, around two-thirds of the Jewish population of Europe, between 1941 and 1945. Jews were targeted for extermination as part of a larger event involving the persecution and murder of other groups, including in particular the Roma and "incurably sick", as well as ethnic Poles and other Slavs, Soviet citizens, Soviet prisoners of war, political opponents, gay men and Jehovah's Witnesses, resulting in up to 17 million deaths overall.
Lyndon Gertrude Cahoon bylo 31 let, když Space Race: Launch of Sputnik 1, the first artificial satellite to orbit the Earth. The Space Race refers to the 20th-century competition between two Cold War rivals, the Soviet Union (USSR) and the United States (US), for dominance in spaceflight capability. It had its origins in the missile-based nuclear arms race between the two nations that occurred following World War II, aided by captured German missile technology and personnel from the Aggregat program. The technological superiority required for such dominance was seen as necessary for national security, and symbolic of ideological superiority. The Space Race spawned pioneering efforts to launch artificial satellites, uncrewed space probes of the Moon, Venus, and Mars, and human spaceflight in low Earth orbit and to the Moon.
Lyndon Gertrude Cahoon bylo 38 let, když The Beatles make their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, performing before a "record-busting" audience of 73 million viewers across the USA. The Beatles were an English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. With members John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, they became widely regarded as the foremost and most influential music band in history. Rooted in skiffle, beat and 1950s rock and roll, the Beatles later experimented with several musical styles, ranging from pop ballads and Indian music to psychedelia and hard rock, often incorporating classical elements and unconventional recording techniques in innovative ways. In 1963, their enormous popularity first emerged as "Beatlemania"; as the group's music grew in sophistication, led by primary songwriters Lennon and McCartney, the band were integral to pop music's evolution into an art form and to the development of the counterculture of the 1960s.
Lyndon Gertrude Cahoon bylo 52 let, když Jim Jones led more than 900 members of the Peoples Temple to mass murder/suicide in Jonestown, Guyana, hours after some of its members assassinated U.S. Congressman Leo Ryan (pictured). James Warren Jones was an American religious cult leader who initiated and was responsible for a mass suicide and mass murder in Jonestown, Guyana. He considered Jesus Christ as being in compliance with an overarching belief in socialism as the correct social order. Jones was ordained as a Disciples of Christ pastor, and he achieved notoriety as the founder and leader of the Peoples Temple cult.
Lyndon Gertrude Cahoon bylo 55 let, když The first launch of a Space Shuttle (Columbia) takes place: The STS-1 mission. The Space Shuttle was a partially reusable low Earth orbital spacecraft system operated by the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), as part of the Space Shuttle program. Its official program name was Space Transportation System (STS), taken from a 1969 plan for a system of reusable spacecraft of which it was the only item funded for development. The first of four orbital test flights occurred in 1981, leading to operational flights beginning in 1982. In addition to the prototype whose completion was cancelled, five complete Shuttle systems were built and used on a total of 135 missions from 1981 to 2011, launched from the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. Operational missions launched numerous satellites, interplanetary probes, and the Hubble Space Telescope (HST); conducted science experiments in orbit; and participated in construction and servicing of the International Space Station. The Shuttle fleet's total mission time was 1322 days, 19 hours, 21 minutes and 23 seconds.
Lyndon Gertrude Cahoon bylo 64 let, když Nelson Mandela is released from Victor Verster Prison outside Cape Town, South Africa after 27 years as a political prisoner. Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, political leader, and philanthropist who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was the country's first black head of state and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election. His government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid by tackling institutionalised racism and fostering racial reconciliation. Ideologically an African nationalist and socialist, he served as President of the African National Congress (ANC) party from 1991 to 1997.
Lyndon Gertrude Cahoon bylo 77 let, když Invasion of Iraq: In the early hours of the morning, the United States and three other countries (the UK, Australia and Poland) begin military operations in Iraq. The 2003 invasion of Iraq was the first stage of the Iraq War. The invasion phase began on 20 March 2003 and lasted just over one month, including 21 days of major combat operations, in which a combined force of troops from the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Poland invaded Iraq. This early stage of the war formally ended on 1 May 2003 when U.S. President George W. Bush declared the "end of major combat operations", after which the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) was established as the first of several successive transitional governments leading up to the first Iraqi parliamentary election in January 2005. U.S. military forces later remained in Iraq until the withdrawal in 2011.
