Anzella and John Perra As told by Nettie Roy (daughter) John and Anzella Perra arrived in Spirit River in April1946. accompanied by their sons, Blaize and Ferdinand ( Fred) and Nathalie (Nettie), they rejoined the part of the family who were already living in Spirit River and the Peace area, namely Alex, Victor, Bernadette Mitchell, Clem, Ernie, Alphonse and Tony of Donelly. After farming for some 40 yeas in Montmartre, Saskatchewan they retired to this community, getting reacquainted with their family. John was active as a janitor for St. Joseph Church until his illness progressed too far. He had to get up at four o'clock in the morning to start the furnace for the Sunday mass as it was a wood furnace. He also helped out on different farms where he would feel more at home. John passed away in 1953. Anzella was a homemaker and loved to have her family around her. She was the mother of 16 children. She also enjoyed visiting the hospital and attending mass every day rain or shine. She passed away January 1968. At present there are nine survivors of this family. My recollection, through the eyes of a 20 year old girl, when we came off the train, was all these guys in rubber boots. It was not appealing at all. I found out that my fur-trimmed boots would come off when I tried to walk! To cross the street from the Co-op to the Royal Bank was something to be experienced with mud and slush coming down the hill and into my boots. The faster I walked the dirtier I got! There was no way but to get a pair of knee high rubber boots too! John Perras was 59 years old when World War II: Nazi Germany and Slovakia invade Poland, beginning the European phase of World War II. World War II, also known as the Second World War, was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945, although conflicts reflecting the ideological clash between what would become the Allied and Axis blocs began earlier. The vast majority of the world's countries—including all of the great powers—eventually formed two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis. It was the most global war in history; it directly involved more than 100 million people from over 30 countries. In a state of total war, the major participants threw their entire economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities behind the war effort, blurring the distinction between civilian and military resources. World War II was the deadliest conflict in human history, marked by 50 to 85 million fatalities, most of whom were civilians in the Soviet Union and China. It included massacres, the genocide of the Holocaust, strategic bombing, premeditated death from starvation and disease and the only use of nuclear weapons in war.
