The cemetery was originally known as the Stein Farm Cemetery located on Ernst Louis Stein farm with the first known burial in 1856. The last known burial was in 1923. The Schiermeier and Stein farms were in the same area and both used the same burial location. The Nagel family was married to a Stein daughter. Originally the site had trees and was on a knoll. Later an iron fence covered an area larger than the current cemetery fence. There were wooden markers that have disappeared and it is unknown how many were actually buried at the site. The Stein family no longer owns the farm but the site is protected by the county. In 1903 Ernst Louis Stein, son of the original owner, had the cemetery surveyed, recorded, and then donated as a grave site for use of the family and descendants. It is recorded in Book K, page 15, April 4, 1903 of St. Clair County, Illinois.
