It is in very bad shape with many stones gone or buried in dirt. What I did find were broken. 8-10 bases but no stones and sunken places. No markers. Stones I did find were on the ground. To find it take 119 North out of Connellsville, just after you pass the Crawford Ave. exit, North of town, turn right on Buttermore Rd. The road turns back toward Connellsville. There is a 50 foot ledge on left, cemetery is on top of it. I will go back this winter to see if I can find more stones, but this is what I did find. 1. Lodicy w/o John MARTIN ( bottom part broken off) 2. Catherine w/o J.M. STRAUCH 9-14-1887 3. [Mar ?] y HORRICKS 10-11-1813 age 43 ( corner broken off first name gone ) Bottom part of stone only markings ( died 3-3-1871 ) __________________________________ Subject: Point of Rocks Several years ago, (["it was in 2001 — probably October, but I am not certain"] I made this trek to the same “cemetery” – although I struggled up the side of hill with two of my young children. It was fun…sort of. Anyways, I was curious if you found any stones that I may have missed back then. I actually uncovered at least two stones (hand dug), so I recognize it is possible some others have been discovered since my trip. I will certainly look through your photos to see if I notice anything, but wanted to also share my handwritten notes from that time years ago to see if you can quickly notice any differences in what you found. Here are the stones that I could decipher: 1. Lodicy Wife of John Martin Died March 2, 1871 2. Leasure E. Son of T & R Herbert Born 3-21-???? 3. M.J. R. 4. Horricks Oct 11, 1813 age 43 5. R.Y.J. I remember my visit well as I climbed the hill from the bottom ([versa] walking in on level ground from the top) and I carried my infant child with me in a backpack carrier. I happened to visit it at the exact same time as two older ladies who were looking for different ancestors, so we spent a little time together (and they helped entertain my son as I raked and dug to find markers, careful not to damage anything). I had made arrangements with Bob Montgomery on Idaho Street to access the cemetery from his backyard. This was much easier than climbing the gully from Buttermore Blvd. While Gary was taking pictures I talked to Bob Montgomery and he told me that someone had planned to cut the timber in the cemetery but protests from the local residents stopped that. The digging at the base of the north end of the ridge has also been halted and the digging equipment has been removed. In the attached pictures Gary felt the the iron stake was being used for surveying purposes. Since I was handling the money and arrangements at the dedication luncheon I had no chance to eat or get into the dining room. Old DAR applications indicate that at one time there was a headstone for Jacob Buttermore, but was destroyed by vandals ca. 1964. We found scattered headstones, but only one or two still legible. Think we accessed the woods behind the house at the corner of Idaho St and ____ Ave. I took a photo of one and uploaded to Findagrave.com.
