The cemetery started operating in 1937, after the old cemetery in Yaffo st. was closed. In this cemetery are buried the refineries victims, who were killed when the state of Israel was born. There is also a plot for the deceased of the ship Patria. In the cemetery there is a "bereaved parents" plot, adjacent to the military cemetery. In this plot parents of fallen soldiers are buried, following an approval from the ministry of security. There are also several monuments for communities wiped out during the holocaust. בית עלמין זה החל לפעול בשנת 1937 לאחר שתמו מקומות הקבורה בבית העלמין העתיק ברחוב יפו. בבית העלמין זה נקברו חללי בתי הזיקוק שנרצחו בקום המדינה. כמו כן ישנה חלקה בה קבורים נפטרי האנייה פאטריה. בבית עלמין זה ישנה חלקת "הורים שכולים" הצמודה לבית הקברות הצבאי בו נקברים הורים לחללי צה"ל באישור משרד הביטחון. וכן ישנם אנדרטאות זיכרון לקהילות שנכחדו בשואה.
