Ellis Mize (1882-1967), buried in this cemetery, donated forestry property to the University of Florida. In 1948, the private cemetery located within the Mize pine forest operations and turpentine production was donated to the Fairbanks Baptist Church located a short distance away at the corner of NE 78 Place and NE 56 Terrace. The historical marker commemorates the naval stores industry operated by the Mize family until 1950.
