This Place of Worship was founded in 1899, and is still open. Christ Church was opened as a chapel of ease to its mother parish of Beighton. Kelly's Directory of 1912 describes it as the Mission church at Hackenthorpe", recording that it was built from designs by Mr. J.D. Webster, architect of Sheffield, at a cost of £2,555, towards which Earl Manvers contributed £500, and the late James Hounsfield esq. of Hackenthorpe Hall, £250. The foundation stone was laid by Earl Manvers (then Viscount Newark M.P.) on 3 June 1898. Beighton was anciently part of Derbyshire, but was transferred, along with its hamlets (Birley, Hackenthorpe, and Frecheville) to the City of Sheffield in 1967, and in 1974 to Sheffield diocese. Sheffield Archives catalogue informs us that they hold baptism registers for Christ Church for the period 1899-1954, and marriages 1961-1977.
