The Revolutionary War soldier John Mosby Binford came from VA who was married to Frances Hardiman. Their children were Susan, Martha, Henry, Peter St. George, Hugh, Addison, Abner Hardiman, Louisa, Lucy, John Mosby Jr, and Elizabeth to established a farm in Madison County, AL. The Binford Cemetery was established with the first burial of their son Peter St. George Binford who married in 1810 to Grace Dameron Lee (a cousin of Gen. Robert E. Lee). After having seven children, Grace died Aug. 17, 1826 in Madison Co., Alabama. Peter Binford and his children were recorded by the 1830 Census in Madison County. He owned 63 slaves and was sometimes given the title "Captain" in local accounts. The Peter Binford's will was written January 9, 1839, and probated January 13, 1839 in Madison County, Alabama. It named son Henry A. and daughters Mary Rowan and Elizabeth Patton. Peter's other four children had predeceased him. Elizabeth would die before the end of the month, and Mary would die about three years later. Only Henry survived to raise a family. Also named in Peter's will were his brother Abner, his nephew Peter (son of Hugh), and son-in-law Alfred A. Rowan. It mentioned a tombstone for his own grave and for his wife and children, Peter and Frances. The cemetery was named Binford Cemetery after the owners of the property. There are eight known burials in the cemetery.
